Abstract

Since 1993, I have been a full-time Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering of Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María — UTFSM, Valparaíso, Chile. My teaching and research are focused on Operations Management, with particular emphasis on Physical Asset Management, Maintenance, and Reliability Engineering, both at undergraduate and graduate levels.

My academic work has been published in journals and books, and I have led several industrial and consulting projects in system reliability analysis, reliability engineering deployment, and the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles across sectors ranging from mining to services. I also served as a member of the Chilean chapter of ISO/TC 251, related to the ISO 55000 series on asset management.

In university management, I have held several leadership positions at UTFSM, including Director of Academic Affairs, Director of Planning and Development, and Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering. I currently serve as Director of the Master’s Program in Industrial Engineering and as Director of the Master’s Program in Asset Management and Maintenance at UTFSM. I also served, until May 2026, as a member of the Superior Council, the highest governing body of Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María.
